FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What's happening for On Holiday this year?

Due to a number of complicated factors, we have decided to go with a pared-down version of On Holiday. This means the following:

-We are no longer running this as an SOS event, but everyone is still invited to reserve a cottage at Lakeside for the week of July 10-17 and enjoy a vacation together. There is significant interest in people from around the SOS, so people are still planning to attend, despite it's unofficial status.

- We are scrapping the program fee! Since this is no longer official, we are not going to organize group activities centrally. Please note that everyone still has to pay gate and parking fees to Lakeside if they attend.

- Come for as much or as little as you like.

- We will keep this website running, and people who are attending can feel free to fill out the registration form and contact other users via the site. This way people can still be in touch about who's planning to come. Also, you can use the discussion board to organize any group activities that people want to initiate.

What will it cost?

Cost = Cottage Rental + Food + Gate Passes + Parking

Everyone will still need to pay for Gate Passes and Parking. The rates for 2010 are:

Gate Passes:Adults 18-90 $17.50/adult/day
   Teens 12-17 $12.25/teen/day
   Children 0-11 Free!

Parking: $7.25/vehicle/day

Lodging:

Reserve your lodging starting February 1st, 2010. All housing arrangements can be completed by contacting Lakeside Chautauqua Realty. This can be done by visiting the Lakeside website at Lakeside Lodging. Once you're there, you can see the different options like camping, cottages, hotels, bed and breakfasts, etc... For cottage rentals, you'll be shown a list of cottages complete with all the information you'll need to know about them. It is advised that you pick out 2-3 different cottages that you would be interested in renting. Once you have a few cottages in mind, call the number for Lakeside Chautauqua Realty, and a member of their staff will handle the reservation from there. Make sure you reserve for the dates of "On Holiday" week. (July 10–17, 2010).

Cottage rental rates are set by the owners,The true cost of renting a cottage will depend on the quality of the cottage, and the number of people sharing it. Also, please be aware that there is a 9.5% tax, and $45 booking fee which are extra.
Basic cost estimates are $340.00 - for a single and $900-$1,300 per couple/family.

Once you've reserved your cottage, please notify the other attendees of your accommodations by filling out the "lodging info" form.

Looking for Housemates? Some people may be wondering what that "msg board" link is in the top menu of this site. That link is meant to be a place where people can post comments and questions about On Holiday that they want to submit to the On Holiday community at large. You can use it to post things like "I need a place to stay, does anyone have a spot?" or "I have two openings in my cottage, can anyone take one?" or "We're planning on going to Cedar Point on Wednesday, anybody interested?" It exists to handle the various social engineering aspects of the vacation in an efficient manner.

Directions:

How do I get there?: Follow this link for a Map of Lakeside. You can type in your home address to find driving directions.
